WHAT IS PURIM? ‘Feast of Lots’ A Joyful Commemoration: The Salvation of Jewish People in Ancient Persia
‘Pur’ is the Persian word for ‘Lot’. In the Book of Esther 9:26; “Therefor they called these days ‘Purim’ after the name ‘Pur.'” Back in the day, Haman was the top official under King Ahasuerus (Xerxes I). He despise Jews. He was granted a favor from the King, who allowed him to create an Edict to be enforced throughout the Kingdom. The conniving Haman cast lots to ‘randomly’ choose the 13th day of Adar as the day to Massacre all Jews throughout the Persian Empire. The King was going to allow this Genocidal Plot, but before it happened, Queen Esther(covertly Jewish), got news and warned Mordechai who in turn developed a plan to thwart Haman’s Plot.
