The Louisiana Pirate Festival Official Website is an annual multi-day seafaring event held on the shores of Lake Charles, Louisiana, near the Lake Charles Civic Center.

Originally known as CONTRABAND DAYS and founded in 1958, the festival celebrates local pirate lore, specifically the legend of  JEAN LAFITTE’S buried treasure along CONTRABAND BAYOU. [1, 2, 3]
Key Festival Events & Attractions
  • The Pirate Invasion & Landing Day: The festival kicks off when costumed buccaneers playing “Jean Lafitte” and his crew sail up to the shore, battle the local city militia with cannon fire, capture the mayor, and make city officials “walk the plank” into the lake. [1, 2]
  • Entertainment & Parades: Features live music performances, walking pirate parades, costume contests, and a little matey’s play area for children. [1, 2, 3]
  • Food & Activities: Visitors can enjoy carnival rides by Todd Armstrong, food booths at Galley Alley, a BBQ cook-off, car and Jeep shows, and a fireworks display. [1, 2, 3]
  • Admission: General admission to the festival grounds is typically free, with separate costs for carnival ride armbands and specific special events. [1]
